I had the urge to make a pair of trousers, not a proper pair, just a taster to see what it’s all about so what better pattern to choose than Burda Style 6938
This is a super easy pattern that even a novice sewer could construct in one day. You literally sew the legs seams, sew on the waist band, insert elastic and draw cord/ribbon and then you are done! The only technical aspect are the pockets and they’re just a matter of common sense. This pattern really is that simple!
I cut a size 14 and used a light weight printed cotton fabric.
The leg is very straight, so when I make these again I will taper in the leg to a size 12 from the knee downwards just to give a more fitted finish.
As the fabric pattern is quite pretty I used a ribbon for the draw cord to keep the look elegant and feminine.
This was my first time sewing a casing and inserting elastic. I had a bit of trouble pulling the elastic though because the one I used was a little too thick, but I got there in the end. Lesson learned, it’s always better to go thinner than thicker where elastic is concerned.
In summary this is a great pattern especially as printed trousers are back in style this summer. I wholly recommend it and I plan to make at least three more pairs. I’ll let you know how I get on 🙂
Very pretty and summery, and those colors will go with some great tips. You look like a trouser pro already!
Thank you 🙂 I am now more motivated to make a proper pair of trousers, which i know will be more difficult but I’m up for the challenge! 🙂
